BEFORE you layoff, here’s something that may be helpful to know.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) offers businesses the opportunity to participate in a Short-Time Compensation (STC) program that is designed to minimize the economic impact of the Coronavirus disease.
This is a voluntary program to assist employers with maintaining your staff by reducing the weekly working hours during slowdowns, instead of laying off employees.
If an employer establishes an STC plan and an employee meets the qualifications to file a reemployment assistance claim in the state of Florida, the employee will receive a partial reemployment check to supplement the reduced paycheck.
